From the Trading Floor to the Future of Trade.
Our Story
KwikPort was born from years of firsthand experience in the commodity trading industry and a conviction that one of Africa’s largest economic opportunities could be transformed through technology.
KwikPort was founded by John Dale and Lawrence Oyor, who built their understanding of commerce from within the trading value chain, working across commodity markets, sourcing, procurement and commercial transactions.
They understood how trade worked beyond the formal structures of large corporations. They had seen the margins, experienced the opportunities and worked alongside traders whose commercial knowledge was built through years of practical experience.
Many of these traders had remarkable expertise. They understood their markets, knew how to source commodities, negotiate prices and execute transactions. Yet their businesses remained small, not because they lacked capability, but because they lacked the financial capacity and formal structures required to grow.
At the same time, they observed another reality.
Trade has always been one of the most powerful ways of building a business. Goods move, markets are served and value is created along the way.
Yet taking part has depended on who you know and what infrastructure you can reach. Many entrepreneurs and business-minded people wanted to be part of real commerce but lacked the experience, relationships and operational knowledge to trade directly.
On one side were people who understood trade but lacked the structure to grow.
On the other were people with the drive to trade but without the access, knowledge and infrastructure.
Between them existed an enormous commercial economy, largely informal, fragmented and disconnected.
The Idea That Became KwikPort
The question was no longer whether commercial opportunities existed.
It was whether technology could connect the people, resources and capabilities already present within the economy.
Social technology had connected people across the world. E-commerce had transformed how goods were bought and sold. Financial technology had changed how money moved.
The founders saw an opportunity to bring a similar technological transformation to the underlying process of trade itself.
Not simply another marketplace for buying and selling products, but an integrated infrastructure where commercial opportunities, participating traders, independent execution businesses and transaction coordination could operate within one connected ecosystem.
A system where experienced traders could access greater commercial capacity, individuals could participate in real trade without independently building entire trading operations, and service providers could connect their expertise to commercial demand.
